California has reinstated an indoor mask mandate, effective Wednesday, December 15 regardless of a person’s vaccination status. The announcement made on Monday in Sacramento is an effort to combat the recent rise in Covid cases. Positive cases have risen 47% statewide over the past two weeks.

The initial indoor mask mandate expired on June 15, 2021, but some counties have implemented their own rules since then, including LA County. Gov. Gavin Newsom’s administration announced the new order will last 30 days, expiring on January 15. California is one of eight states currently implementing this indoor mask mandate, joining Hawaii, Nevada, Illinois, New Mexico, New York, Oregon and Washington.
